Wine budget calculator
Open CalculatorChoose a Goal. Both price and bottle count stay editable. The field you edit most recently becomes the input; its counterpart updates in gold. Editing a different wine keeps the previous wine’s displayed values.
Stay Within Budget
Enter Budget $, then a bottle price to calculate bottles. Edit Bottles instead to calculate Max. Price/Bottle. You can switch directions at any time by editing the other field.
The gold value is calculated. Budget bottle counts and whole-dollar price limits round down so the total stays under the cap. This funds a finite quantity; staff must track actual orders to enforce the budget.
Keep some wines fixed
Start with one wine. Add Wine sits below the wine box. Add the rows you need, then enter the fixed wines first and the wine to calculate last. For two white bottles followed by red: add a second row, enter white at $50 and 2 bottles, then enter red at $90.
Adding a wine keeps the previous displayed values. The last price or bottle count edited selects the wine to calculate. Use × to remove a row. There is no fixed number of wines; the wine list scrolls when necessary.
Turn on Servings
In Stay Within Budget, switch Servings on. Enter Guests, Glasses / Guest and Pour oz in the same row. The default pour is 5 oz. A price input calculates the bottles needed for those servings; a bottle-count input calculates the maximum price.
Other wines contribute their full glasses first. With a blank bottle count, a budget also calculates the serving quantity and price limit automatically. Glasses Short appears when a manual count is too low. A budget is optional when a price drives the serving quantity. Turning Servings off disables all three serving fields. A per-guest budget becomes its equivalent total when switched off.
Use a smaller pour
Turn on Servings. Set Glasses / Guest to 1 and Pour oz to your toast size. Select the bottle’s actual size.
Each wine has its own format. 1.5 L is a magnum; larger formats are available up to 9 L. The price is always for one bottle of that size. Changing the format does not infer its selling price.
Meet Minimum Spend
Enter Minimum $ and Spent $. Enter a bottle price to calculate the additional bottles, or edit Bottles to calculate Min. Price/Bottle.
These are two ways to fill the same $200 gap. Bottle counts and calculated whole-dollar prices round up to meet the minimum. Only include eligible spending in Spent. For an upgrade, enter bottles still to be purchased; already-purchased bottles belong in Spent. No serving fields appear in this goal.
Total Bottle Cost
Enter each wine’s price and bottle count. Total Bottle Cost adds all rows without selecting a calculated wine.
Use Charges for optional service and tax. A zero quantity contributes zero. Missing or invalid inputs show a dash; invalid fields receive a red outline. Prices are staff inputs, not live quotes or wine-quality rankings.
Complete 5 oz glasses per bottle
Full glasses = round down [bottle mL ÷ (pour oz × 29.5735295625)]. Partial glasses from different bottles are not combined. Actual yield varies with pouring and waste; no loss allowance is automatically added. Pour size supports quarter-ounce steps from 0.25 to 20 oz. Bottle-size choices run from 187 mL to 9 L.

Read the totals
| Field or result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Budget Basis | Total wine budget or a per-guest allowance. The default cap covers bottle prices. |
| Charges | Optional service and tax rates. Tax On Service includes the service charge in the taxable amount. Each charge rounds to cents. |
| Include In Budget | The final amount, including entered charges, must fit the budget. |
| Minimum Gap | Minimum minus Spent, never less than zero. Both amounts use the eligible subtotal. |
| Projected Spend | Spent plus every wine row. Below Minimum reports an unfilled gap; Above Minimum reports the excess. |
| Added Wine With Charges | Charges on additional wine only. Spent is not charged again. Minimum-spend calculations always use the subtotal. |
| Over Budget | The entered fixed purchases already exceed the cap, or the serving quantity costs more than the budget. |
Inputs save on the current browser and do not sync between devices. Reset clears this calculator’s current inputs. The prior calculator’s saved inputs remain preserved separately; its entered prices, formats and quantities carry forward where applicable. Saved formats above 9 L remain preserved in the prior version and require a supported format selection in this version. No inventory, reservation or bill is changed.
